It is not signed, but provenance information verifies it to be by Lena Bergner. It measures 20 x 7 7/8 with the actual painting 16 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches. It is painted against a sort of penciled grid in a variety of dark red/maroons, aqua/turquoises, orange/browns, and yellow. The design is geometric. On the back, handwritten in red pencil is the date of June 22, 1937 and also written is ‘8 Variante’. This item was originally in a lot of other original drawings for textile designs, some of which were signed by Lena Bergner, some initialed. Most are now at the Getty Museum. Lena Bergner was a textile designer at the Bauhaus Dessau. She married the director of the Bauhaus Dessau, the urban designer and professor of architecture, Hannes Meyer.
